COMPULSED "Amalgamated Anguish" CD PRE-ORDER

The word “brutality,” particularly in the context of death metal, evokes an unrelenting, overwhelming, top-speed assault. For New Jersey’s Compulsed, bringing a sense of balance to their compositions while honoring the speed and aggression of classic brutal death metal - as defined for a generation of connoisseurs by the Unique Leader label - was integral to the creation of their debut album, Amalgamated Anguish.

Unquestionably fast and aggressive, Amalgamated Anguish never fades into an indistinct blur, thanks to this unwavering principle of balance. Brutality melds with memorable songwriting, technicality is matched by tastefulness, and the band’s mastery of the genre’s hallmarks might initially belie the mutant imagination at work. While the Unique Leader canon of bands like Disgorge and Pyaemia looms large among Compulsed’s inspirations, the idiosyncratic deathgrind of early Willowtip Records artists such as Circle of Dead Children and Kalibas is also heavily encoded in the band’s musical DNA. As a result, straightforward brutal death metal gives way to moments of chaotic dissonance and genuine weirdness. It’s this open-minded approach - and the band’s ability to challenge the listener while offering the deceptively familiar - that makes Compulsed stand out in the crowded landscape of brutal death metal.

Compulsed formed in 2023 and released their demo in April 2024. Amalgamated Anguish was engineered, mixed, and mastered by AJ Viana (Waking the Cadaver, Cognitive) at AJ Viana Productions. Amalgamated Anguish will be released on August 15, 2025. The album will be available digitally via Bandcamp, with physical editions handled by a trio of underground labels: Hibernation Records (LP), P2 (CD), and Iron Fortress Records (Cassette).
